Herbert Smith Partners with Recommind to Drive Firm's Innovative Approach to eDiscovery
Herbert Smith selected Recommind’s Axcelerate eDiscovery with the most efficient Predictive Coding process in the market to tackle the challenges of complex litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations
January 19th, 2012 – Recommind, the leader in predictive information management software, today announced that Herbert Smith LLP, a leading international law firm, has selected Recommind’s Axcelerate eDiscovery suite with Predictive Coding to be deployed across the firm’s global dispute practices including their innovative new Belfast office.
Herbert Smith has a network of offices in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, with 1,400 lawyers globally. Herbert Smith is partnering with Recommind to support the firm’s leading dispute resolution practices around the globe, in conjunction with the firm’s innovative Belfast office which focuses on the document review elements of its larger and complex disputes matters. Herbert Smith is the first international law firm to establish a wholly integrated, UK-based document review operation to conduct this type of work.
In order to support the integration of the firm’s disputes practices with its document review operation in Belfast, Herbert Smith needed to partner with a company that could meet its technology needs, not only today, but also its requirements of tomorrow as the service continues to grow rapidly. When the license ran out with Herbert Smith’s legacy Autonomy solution, the firm turned to Recommind for the industry’s most advanced eDiscovery technology. The new partnership will see Herbert Smith deploy Recommind’s Axcelerate Review & Analysis – a revolutionary predictive coding, review and analysis product – in-house to manage the majority of its document processing, ECA and Review for clients that wish to use it, with the added advantage of also having access to Axcelerate On-Demand, Recommind’s cloud-based all-in-one hosted eDiscovery solution.
“With the ever increasing volumes of documentation that are seen in disputes, we were looking for a software tool that would manage the document review process in the most cost effective and efficient way. Following a live case study, we were delighted to discover that Recommind’s sophisticated technology was able to offer the innovation we wanted to complement our client offering,” said Andrew Moir, partner in intellectual property at Herbert Smith. “Our litigation and disputes teams are world renowned and it’s essential that we stay ahead of the curve. Recommind’s analytics stood out from other solutions on the market because it allows us to get to the heart of a matter quickly and to streamline further our document review services, ensuring improved performance and cost savings for our clients, while maintaining the quality of service that they have come to expect.”
Developed in collaboration with some of the world’s largest enterprises and law firms, Recommind’s Predictive Coding technology and workflow have transformed the legal industry by accelerating the most expensive phase of eDiscovery, document review. Together with a small amount of information from a knowledgeable lawyer, Predictive Coding uses machine learning to help the lawyers to categorise and prioritise any document set with great speed and accuracy, no matter how much data is involved. By giving human reviewers computerised assistance, for the right case Predictive Coding can save considerable review costs.
“Herbert Smith’s approach to managing document review from its new Belfast office is challenging the more commonly used practice of legal process outsourcing (LPO) by bringing the model in-house,” said Bob Tennant, CEO of Recommind. “Through Recommind’s partnership with Herbert Smith, it’s very exciting to be part of this new, innovative and forward-thinking approach to the complex challenges of document review. By combining Recommind’s Axcelerate, the most accurate and efficient document review system on the market, with Herbert Smith’s pioneering new approach to document review and analysis, this partnership sets a new bar for efficiency in eDiscovery and eDisclosure in the UK, Europe and beyond.”
