Innovative Enterprise Search and eDiscovery Solutions Amongst First to Achieve Compliance With Leading Industry Group Standard

SAN FRANCISCO, February 5, 2008– Recommind, a leading provider of automatic categorization, enterprise search, and eDiscovery systems for law firms and enterprises, today announced that both MindServer Legal v5.1 and Axcelerate eDiscovery v3.0 are compliant with EDRM’s Extensible Markup Language (XML) standard, EDRM XML 1.0.  MindServer Legal and Axcelerate eDiscovery are amongst the first products to achieve compliance with the newly released XML standard, which was designed to improve interoperability and the transfer of electronically stored information (ESI) between applications involved in the discovery process.

The EDRM XML compliant Axcelerate eDiscovery application provides the following benefits:

  1. Lower labor costs – IT departments, legal teams and service providers can significantly reduce the amount of manual effort spent transferring ESI from system to system.
  2. Fewer errors – Organizations can focus their efforts on a single standard schema, versus multiple schemas, to transfer ESI from system to system, reducing errors.
  3. Faster eDiscovery – The ability to efficiently transfer data leads to a faster, streamlined end-to-end eDiscovery process.
  4. Greater flexibility – Organizations have the freedom to choose “best-of-breed” products that offer interoperability, versus inferior products that must be pieced together.

“The development of the EDRM XML standard shows a changing of the tides in the world of eDiscovery best practices,” said George J. Socha, principal analyst with Socha Consulting and co-founder of the EDRM Project. “By implementing a standard way of managing the collaboration between technologies, EDRM has capitalized on the industry’s readiness to work together and move the entire industry forward.”

Axcelerate eDiscovery is powered by Recommind’s patented conceptual search and auto-categorization technology, the MindServer™ platform.  MindServer automatically identifies concepts within and across information resources, regardless of the language or subject or whether information is in structured or unstructured form. As a result, MindServer is able to automatically understand that words can have multiple meanings and that there are multiple ways to express the same concept or query.  Because MindServer extracts concepts on its own, no training or manual intervention is needed to make it useful, resulting in lower deployment and maintenance effort and expense.

Recommind’s MindServer Legal is a comprehensive software suite that integrates a legal department or law firm’s critical information repositories, enabling fast, easy access to relevant information. The platform substantially reduces the time and costs involved in conducting legal research, while improving the quality of work delivered to the end client.  Using patented search and categorization technology, MindServer Legal improves access to a wide variety of information and expertise across large, distributed legal departments and external firms and returns results in context for more accurate understanding and actionability of the information.

“It has been my privilege to lead the EDRM XML group to this historic day in the industry, as this schema and its market-wide acceptance is going to have a dramatic affect on various steps of the eDiscovery process, quality and cost,” said David Baskin, Vice President of Product Management for Recommind.  “I am honored to be leading and working with such a diverse group of people who in a very short period of time have been able to improve and educate the world with the EDRM model and standards that it sets. We at Recommind are proud our two key products, MindServer Legal and Axcelerate eDiscovery, are both in compliance with the XML standard and we embrace the work of the EDRM group.”

About EDRM
Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) was created to develop resources and best practices for e-discovery consumers and providers.  Through the group’s creation of the EDRM model, which outlines the key processes and steps involved with e-discovery, to its development of an XML standard so that e-discovery products can interoperate, EDRM has helped e-discovery consumers and providers reduce the cost, time and manual work associated with e-discovery.  Since the group’s inception in 2005, more than 300 people from over 125 organizations have been involved. In the last year, the major industry analyst firms have adopted the EDRM model.  For more information on EDRM, please visit www.edrm.net.
