New Smart-Filters Feature Helps Pinpoint Critical Information Across Multiple Repositories, All from One Search

BERKELEY, CA - December 12, 2005 Recommind, the leading provider of search and automated categorization systems for the legal industry, announced today the immediate availability of MindServer Legal 4.0, an enhanced version of the company's flagship legal enterprise search platform. Built on the award-winning MindServer platform, the inclusion of new smart-filters now helps attorneys quickly pinpoint the critical information they are looking for at the click of a button. With MindServer Legal 4.0, law firms can give attorneys easy and intuitive tools to find the information they need within the firm, making them more productive and allowing them to better serve their clients.

Unlike other search systems, MindServer Legal 4.0 provides immediate context for the results that are returned. This includes such information as what client/matter is associated with a document, who last edited a document, or to which practice area the document is related. In addition, MindServer's novel faceted navigation feature, using new smart-filters, enables users to quickly narrow results based on multiple criteria such as practice group, office, author, client, matter, jurisdiction, and more. Users can instantly filter down to a more focused set of results, allowing them to perform complex legal research in a matter of seconds.

MindServer Legal is currently in use at a number of well-known AmLaw-100 and AmLaw-200 law firms, including DLA Piper US LLP, Cleary Gottlieb, Cooley Godward, Paul Hastings and Miller Canfield. With the recent addition of Morrison & Foerster to the growing list of MindServer Legal customers, Recommind has firmly established itself as the number one provider of Enterprise Search solutions for large law firms.

“At DLA Piper US LLP we are using MindServer Legal 4.0 to search for information across all of our Interwoven systems, our portal, and numerous other firm repositories from one location,” said Browning E. Marean III, Partner at DLA Piper. “We find what's relevant right away. This helps simplify complex research, enables us to serve our customers more effectively, and ultimately makes research much more satisfying.”

MindServer 4.0's major enhancements include:

  • Faceted Navigation: smart-filters allow users to instantly narrow search results based on metadata fields such as Author, Client/Matter, or Practice Area;
  • Federated search: enables users to search 3rd party on-line information services from a single search location within their own firm;
  • Integration into records management and archiving systems: new connectors have been built for MDY's Filesurf and Symantec's Enterprise Vault.
These new features expand upon the capabilities of the existing MindServer platform, which is deployable across multiple offices, locations and languages. The MindServer platform provides automated generation of concept models for highly accurate and relevant results, searches information across more than 270 file types, and delivers automated categorization and taxonomy management. MindServer is scalable to over 100-million documents.

“Our next-generation MindServer Legal 4.0 product is already an integral piece of knowledge management initiatives at top law firms across the country,” said Bob Tennant, Recommind CEO. “Attorney time is a firm's most valuable asset, so firms must give their attorneys simple yet powerful tools to quickly find critical information and deliver accurate results. We continue to address the evolving needs of the legal community by providing the industry-leading solutions firms have come to expect from Recommind.”
